Recycling at Christmas

Christmas is a great time of the year, a time when you will eat far more than usual and you're allowed to, because it's Christmas. You can give and receive gifts from family and friends and you are able to spend precious time with your loved ones.
One thing that is often an afterthought is the huge pile of waste in the form of used packaging, wrapping paper and Christmas cards. Did you know in 2017, the UK sent 277,000 miles of wrapping paper to landfill??
It is a daunting task, remembering what you can recycle, however here are some tips from us to help you recycle as much as you can this Christmas.
Christmas Cards
Christmas cards are one of the most widely recycled items around the festive season, and rightly so. They’re largely made from paper and can be put in your paper recycling bin - unless they have foil or glitter on them. If you’ve got a card with a foil section or a glittery area, it’s best to throw it in the general waste bin.
Wrapping Paper
Do the scrunch test! You can only recycle paper with no plastic within it. To check, scrunch up the paper, if it stays scrunched up it can be recycled – if not, put it in the general waste bin.
Cardboard Boxes
As the number of Christmas gifts ordered online rises, it's likely your items will be delivered in cardboard boxes or envelopes, these are widely recycled, and so they should be! So if you have any, make sure you stick them in your recycling bin.
